Martinsburg, W.Va. – Lena Abshire Slonaker, 92, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday,
July 22, 1998, at Canterbury Nursing Home, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Born April 19, 1906, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late
Robert M. and Ella May Miller Abshire.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert G. Slonaker.
She was a member of Tuscarora Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of Inwood, Tuscarora and and Gerrardstown Homemakers Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Neva Richardson of Martinsburg and Isabelle
Fultz of Bunker Hill, W.VA.; a son Hubert J. “H.J.” Slonaker of Inwood, W.Va.;
11 grandchildren, including Ronald L. Slonaker, whom she raised; 22
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers, William, Edgar, Carl, Harry,
Ernest, Roy, Lester and Melvin Abshire; a granddaughter, Karen Orsini; and a
great-grandson, Michael Andrew Slonaker.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King. St.,
Martinsburg. The Rev. Paul Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Tuscarora
Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
