Obed C. Noll, 76 Dies at Home; On County Court Longest Time
Obed C. Noll, 76, for many years a member and president of the Berkeley County
Court, died suddenly Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at his home in the Tuscarora section.
A Democrat, it is believed he served on the court for the longest period of time
of any member in the modern history of the county, taking office on Jan. 1, 1943
and serving continuously until the time of his death. He served as president of
the body numerous times during his tenure of office and his current term would
have expired on Jan. 1, 1960.
Farming in the county most of his life, he had also been a member of the old
district Board of Education for a number of years and was a member and elder of
Tuscarora Presbyterian Church for about 33 years.
A native of the county, he was born on June 15, 1881, a son of the late Willis
and Fannie Seibert Noll.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Blanche Miller Noll, at home; six sons – Ned and
Lyle W., Tuscarora; Max and Obed, Jr., at home; Cecil, 501 Winchester Avenue;
Robert L., Rt. 3; six grandchildren; two brothers – Willis, 401 West King
street; Roy, 725 Faulkner avenue; and three sisters – Mrs. Bessie Fulk, 145
South Queen street; Mrs. Edith Kuhn and Mrs. Fannie Owens, 314 West King street.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home with the Rev.
John Rogers officiating.
Burial will be in Tuscarora Cemetery.
Offices in the Count House will be closed Thursday at noon to allow employees to
attend the service.
