Mervin F. Kief
Obituary – Saturday, October 10, 1987
KIEF, MERVIN F., 71, of 1204 West Virginia Ave., died Thursday at his home.
Born Jan. 11, 1916, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late George D. and
Bessie E. Mason Kief.
He was a retired carpenter, having been employed by Rose-Jensen Contractors; was
custodian at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and was a member of the
Tuscarora Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Chestina Hayslett Kief, at home; seven brothers, Allen,
Bruce, William, LeRoy, Carl, Eugene and Herbert Kief, Martinsburg; a sister,
Leona Barthlow, Hagerstown and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Gilbert Kief.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Tuscarora Presbyterian Church with the
Rev. Richard A. Forbes officiating. Burial will be in the Tuscarora Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Kogelschatz Funeral Home Sunday from 7-9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarora Presbyterian Church.
Kief Services
Services for Mervin F. Kief, of 1204 West Virginia Ave., who died Thursday at
his home, were conducted Monday at 1 p.m. from the Tuscarora Presbyterian Church
with the Rev. Richard A. Forbes Jr., officiating assisted by the Rev. Edwin M.
Wray. Interment was in the Tuscarora Cemetery.
Honorary bearers were Roger Young, Leon Bovey, John Cushwa, David Hostler.
Active bearers were Sammy Noll, Harold Cushwa, Willis Roberson Jr., Ben
Henderson, James B. Smith Jr. and David Catrow.
Wendell Roberson was organist and Wallace Reynolds Jr. sang “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Mr. Kief was a former deacon of the church.
Arrangements were by the Kogelschatz Funeral Home.
