Reginald L. Canby

 

Reginald Lincoln Canby, 87, a lifelong resident of Berkeley County, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 26, 2006.

Reginald was born Feb. 12, 1919, the son of the late Charles and Bertha Raney Canby.

He attended Berkeley County Schools and worked at Fairchild Aircraft prior to serving in the U. S. Army during World War II. He then remained at home and helped his mother, Bertha Canby, raise farm products which they took to customers in the Martinsburg area. He was also employed at Musselman Plant (now Knouse Food) at Inwood.

He is survived by one brother, Garnett S. Canby Sr., of Martinsburg; and loving and caring nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Brichner and Pansy Kershner; and two brothers, Marion and Calvin C. Canby Sr.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 31, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Arnold Brown officiating. Military graveside services will be at Tuscarora Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Medical Center Voluntary Service, 510 Butler Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25401, to be used in the Domiciliary Unit.

Canby Services

Funeral services for Reginald Lincoln Canby, 87, of Martinsburg, who died March 26, 2006, were held Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arnold Brown officiating.

Military graveside services were held at Tuscarora Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Martinsburg Combined Honor Guard. Honor Guard members were: Paul Besaw, Richard Seeley, John Harmison, Harry Michener, Martin Swope. Special Armed Forces Representatives were: Staff Sgt. Cotta, Pfc. Akers, Pfc. Fleming, Pv2. Glascoe.

Bearers were: Chip Canby, Wayne Butts, Earl Baugher, Jeff Kershner II, Marshall Light, Bill Virts. Honorary bearers were: Donald Linton and Douglas Canby.

Special music included CD’s of “I’d Rather Have Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art.” Mr. Canby’s sister-in-law, Imogene Canby and brother, Garnett Canby shared remembrances.
