Roy J. Canby, 81, of Johnstown, Pa., went to be with the Lord Jan. 9, 2006. Born
Nov. 18, 1924, in Martinsburg, son of Dayton J. and Ada B. (Stum) Canby.
Preceded in death by father; sister, Jane C. Bovey; and granddaughter, Blythe D.
Canby.
Survived by mother, of Martinsburg; wife of 53 years, Dixie M McGee; children,
Dayton James, married to former Susan Gindlesperger, DuBois; Michael T., married
to former Brenda Droz; and Denise C., married to Joseph Tirpak, both of
Johnstown; and Dwight J., married to former Deborah Cooper, Cape Carteret, N.C.;
grandchildren, Bliss C., Mitchell J., Zachary A., Alex J. and Dana M. Canby, and
Corey and Stephanie George; also niece, Lisa (Bovey), married to David Clites,
Martinsburg; and numerous other relatives.
Roy was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European
Theater. He worked many years as a district manager for Montgomery Ward and
later as regional vice president with the Motel 6 Corp., in Santa Barbara,
Calif. Roy enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with family. He will be
sadly missed.
Friends received from 10 a.m. until time of service, 11 a.m. Wednesday at John
Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., Johnstown, Pa., with the Rev. Noah
Martin. Interment by Rev. Clark DeSarro-Raynal, Tuscarora Presbyterian Church
Cemetery, in Martinsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Windber
Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA 15953.

Military graveside services for Roy Canby, 81, of Johnstown, Pa., formerly of
Martinsburg, W.Va., were held Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Tuscarora Presbyterian
Cemetery.
Veteran;s Combined Honor Guard were Jim Grose, Richard Seeley, John Harmison,
Kinnon O. Hope, Frank Barna, and Martin Swope.
