Ada. B. Canby, 100, of Heartland, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord on
Mar. 4, 2006.
Born April 18, 1905 in Newville, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ida (Myers) Stum,
brothers, Bruce, Elmer, and Obrea Stum, husband of more than 50 years, Dayton J.
Canby, daughter, Jane (Canby) Bovey, son-in-law N. Leon, son, Roy J. Canby and
great granddaughter, Blythe D. Canby.
She is survived by sister, Ola Maupin, Martinsburg, daughter-in-law, Dixie M.
Canby, Johnstown, Pa., and five grandchildren, Lisa (Bovey) Clites and husband,
Dave, Martinsburg, Dayton J. Canby, and wife Susan, Dubois, Pa., Michael T.
Canby and wife Brenda, Johnstown, Pa., Denise C. Canby and husband Joseph Tirpak,
Johnstown, Pa., Dwight J. Canby and wife Debbie, Cape Cartaret, N. C., and
nephew, Ronald Bowers, Hagerstown, Md., who she and Mr. Canby raised to a young
man. Also survived by five great-grandchildren, Bliss and Mitchell Canby,
Dubois, Pa., and Zachary, Alex and Dana Canby, Cape Cartaret, N.C., and two
great nephews, Raun and Jon Bowers.
Mrs. Canby was employed at the Interwoven Mill for a number of years and also
worked for National Fruit Company and various orchards. She was a member of
Tuscarora Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. In her earlier years she was a
wonderful cook, and enjoyed crocheting, making beautiful afghans for her
children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 7, 2006, at Tuscarora
Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Clark DeSarro-Raynal presiding. Interment will
be in Tuscarora Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
